Oil Painting Care
You should be able to enjoy your painting for years to come with proper care
While the quality pigments I choose to use are considered professional grade and lightfast, it is best to avoid hanging your painting in direct sunlight. One should also avoid locations where humidity and temperature rise, such as in bathrooms or directly over a sink or cooking appliance. Hot air not only speeds up the natural aging but can carry dirt with it and soften paint. Avoid smoke damage by not hanging above a wood burning fireplace or in a smoker's lounge.
Sturdy hardware appropriate for the weight of your painting should be used when suspending your painting. Two hooks may be beneficial when hanging a larger painting, distributing the weight and allows for some horizontal adjustment. Placing it directly into a wall stud is preferable.
An archival clear, removable resin varnish has been applied to your painting to protect it from environmental dust and UV lighting. It is not waterproof.
When cleaning your painting, do not use solvents or apply heat or pressure. A light hand-dusting with a clean soft, drybrush should be sufficient. While a cloth is not preferable due to risk of scratching,
never use a moist cloth.
